That shower you use every day shouldn’t feel cramped, slippery, or outdated—but for many San Diego homeowners, it does. Stepping over a high curb, bumping into glass panels, or dealing with a layout that just doesn’t flow gets old fast.
We design and install walk-in showers that make your bathroom easier to use and better to live with. No awkward layouts, no unnecessary barriers, no long remodel timelines. Just a clean, open shower space built around how you actually move through your day, completed in days—not months.
Why San Diego Homeowners Choose Nulux
Here’s what we’ve learned after 65+ years of San Diego bathroom projects: walk-in showers only work when they’re designed for the home they’re going into. Too many contractors treat them like a visual upgrade instead of a functional system, which leads to problems that don’t show up until later.
The plumbing layouts in older Clairemont homes are different from newer construction in Carmel Valley, and those differences matter. Drain placement, slope, and waterproofing all have to be handled correctly, especially in coastal areas where moisture exposure is constant.
We’ve solved these problems hundreds of times. Our full-time installers know how to rework layouts for better flow, create proper drainage and waterproofing, and avoid the shortcuts that cause leaks and long-term damage. We handle permits ourselves, show up when we say we will, and back every project with a lifetime warranty because we’re not going anywhere.

We recently had our primary bathroom completely remodeled by NuLux, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish.
Our old bathroom was enormous, but not in a good way. The shower alone was over 11 feet long and 4+ feet wide, complete with a glass block wall, shower seat, and a 10-foot-long shower hose just to clean the thing. The walls and floor were covered in 2” x 2” tile, which meant endless grout cleaning. Worse yet, the shower floor sloped away from the drain on one side, so water constantly pooled and had to be squeegeed after almost every use. At one point I considered throwing gold fish into the puddle end.
The design itself never really made sense. The ceiling was 10 feet high, but the shower head sat at only about 6.5 feet. The sinks were mounted above the tiled counters with raised lips reminiscent of a TikTok influencer. Unfortunately, these lips specialized in trapping mold instead of followers. One of the sinks’ lips were so big the surround cracked. Perhaps lip balm would have helped.
And then there was the bathtub.
No one really used the tub over the 2.33 decades we lived here. I once calculated the tub could comfortably harbor a puncheon of whisky and still leave room for rubber ducks.
Even Jim, from NuLux , said it was one of the largest tubs he had ever seen.
So, yes. It was time to reimagine this bathroom and that is why we contracted with NuLux. They transformed the space.
Jim suggested removing a wall and replacing it with glass, which dramatically opened the space and allowed light to pour through the room. The oversized tub was removed and that space is evolving into a beautiful niche area with plants, wine fridge, and an espresso maker — which, frankly, will get infinitely more use than the tub ever did.
The new shower is about 8 feet long, beautifully designed, and perfectly sloped so water actually drains where water is supposed to drain. Imagine that. The new cabinetry is gorgeous, handcrafted locally with a stain that worthy of patent pending. The sinks are now mounted below the quartzite countertops. Both are elegant and practical.
Throughout the process, Gael, Mike, Jim, and others kept us informed every step of the way. Gael texted every morning to let us know when he would arrive. Communication was consistently excellent. Multiple craftsmen worked on the project, and every person who came into the house was professional and skilled.
The project took a little longer than originally estimated, but much of that was due to demolition. Apparently the original builders believed in constructing shower walls out of approximately half the Hoover Dam. During demolition, Gael discovered 2” to 6” of concrete encasing parts of the shower base and walls. Jim joked that the house probably felt lighter after they removed it.
In the end, the entire process was smooth, professional, and worth it. NuLux specializes only in bathrooms, and it shows. Their experience, craftsmanship, communication, and design ideas transformed a dated and awkward space into something beautiful, functional, and relaxing.
When we eventually remodel our smaller bathrooms, NuLux will be the only company we call.

Day 1. They lived up to their “no change orders” policy even though we had some surprises after demo. They got our bathroom up to code and finished on time. Every person involved from start to finish was wonderful.

Highly recommend the NuLux Team .

Is a Walk-In Shower Right for Your San Diego Home?
The real question isn’t whether you can install a walk-in shower—it’s whether you should.
If you want easier access, more space to move, or a cleaner, more modern layout, a walk-in shower makes a lot of sense. They’re especially popular for homeowners thinking about aging in place, improving safety, or simply upgrading a shower that feels tight and outdated.
But if you rely on a bathtub for young children or prefer having both options in the same bathroom, you may want to think twice. A walk-in shower is a permanent change, and while it often adds value, it should match your household’s needs.
The homes where we see the biggest transformation are those where the shower has become a daily frustration. These upgrades don’t just change how the bathroom looks; they change how comfortably you start and end each day.
